The Flying Spur W12 S is a luxury sports sedan with the power many supercar owners can only dream of - and with the craftsmanship for which Bentley has long been renowned.

While every car in the Flying Spur range could be described in such terms, the introduction of the new Flying Spur W12 S raises the bar once again. The first four-door Bentley to achieve a top speed in excess of 200 mph, the Flying Spur W12 S sets new standards in the world of luxury cars.

This is undoubtedly a luxurious car, whether you sit in the rear or behind the wheel. But it is also a car that is eminently worthy of the Flying Spur name: every aspect of its design has been driven by those who appreciate the unmistakable thrill of taking to the road in a sports car.

Like many Bentleys before it, the power line cuts a sleek, superformed crease from the front wheel arch, along the side of the Flying Spur W12 S. It's a purposeful profile common to each of the models in the Flying Spur range, yet the dark details that adorn its exterior send a series of striking signals. While it represents yet another quintessential demonstration of the handcrafted luxury for which Bentley is famous, this is a car for the serious driver to appreciate.

Unique interior styling distinguishes the Flying Spur W12 S as nothing short of radical.

The Flying Spur W12 S steel treadplates encountered on stepping into the cabin are just the beginning. A unique seat colour split has been developed to lend the interior a distinct sporting feel. Contrast stitching catches the eye on both the steering wheel and seat inserts, with unique headrest stitching completing a sleek, stylish upholstery design.

Marking it out from its siblings in the Flying Spur range are numerous darker details. Gloss black metal replaces chrome on the front grille and the headlamp surrounds. Specially designed 21" 7 twin-spoke black gloss wheels can be commissioned with either red or black painted brake calipers, while W12 S rear pillar badges and treadplates ensure there is no doubt as to the identity of the car.

Even the lamps themselves have been treated with a dark tint on the front and rear. While their functionality is unaffected, the effect on the car's appearance is undeniable.

From the street, it takes little more than a glance to determine that the Flying Spur W12 S is no ordinary luxury sedan. Yet, on taking a seat behind the Sports Plus steering wheel, a sense of the car's sporting bloodline becomes truly inescapable. Alongside the Sports Plus steering wheel, knurled gear shift paddles and, if desired, carbon fibre inlays to the fascia and doors, it soon becomes abundantly clear to any occupant that this Flying Spur is no wolf-in-sheep's-clothing. Inside and out, it's all wolf.

This remarkable car is built around the power of a 6.0-litre, twin-turbo W12 engine supplying substantially increased power and torque for thrilling performance. The engine delivers an electrifying 635PS and a maximum torque of 820 Nm. These enhancements deliver smooth, surging acceleration from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

But what really sets the Flying Spur W12 S apart is the fact that, with a top speed of 202 mph, it is the first Bentley sedan to surpass the 200 mph mark.

The exhilarating performance of the Flying Spur W12 S is matched only by the design of the driving experience inside the cabin. Knurled gear-shift paddles and a high-performance Sports Plus steering wheel ensures the drive is engaging and dynamic. These are details to make handling exhilarating, ensuring the driver feels completely connected to the road.

The Flying Spur W12 S is a sedan that is as thrilling and satisfying to drive as any grand tourer; truly a remarkable car.

For more than a decade, Bentley has built cars on a proven permanent all-wheel drive system and the Flying Spur W12 S is no exception. Bentley Dynamic Ride gives the driver a choice of driving modes, ensuring the suspension settings can always be optimised for changing driving conditions.

A default 40:60 rear-biased torque split gives a sense of agility, reducing understeer on bends and transferring power between the front and rear axles on demand, according to which wheels have the strongest grip on the road. By delivering traction at all times, it ensures you will always feel the full power of the W12 engine at your disposal.

The Flying Spur W12 S is also a spectacular car in which to be driven. With computer controlled suspension technology, damper control and stability control calibration specific to the W12 S, passenger ride comfort is supremely smooth and refined. Add the celebrated smoothness of Bentley's W12 engines and the Flying Spur's advanced noise insulation, and the Flying Spur W12 S delivers an unrivalled passenger experience.

And for the driver? An awe-inspiring experience, thanks to the finely tuned suspension system, providing total confidence in challenging driving situations. At higher speeds, roll-control is optimised and greater responsiveness delivers real engagement with the road.

The Flying Spur W12 S offers a striking demonstration of Bentley technology. As in every car to emerge from behind the factory doors in Crewe, it employs technology only when it directly improves the experience for the driver or passengers.

In the Flying Spur W12 S, as in any Bentley, every control, every switch, every touchscreen and every dial is designed to feel intuitive and simple. What can seem intricate in other cars feels intuitive in this one, whether you are sitting behind the wheel or in the comfort of the rear cabin.

The infotainment system can be used from any seat, with those in the back enjoying the use of a specially-designed wireless touchscreen remote (TSR), enabling them to access journey information, vehicle data and also to control music, telephone, air conditioning and other functions essential to passenger comfort.

Located in the centre of the rear console, the touch screen remote (TSR) controls the rear window blind and rear climate conditions as well as the seat heating and ventilation (where fitted). It can also be used to adjust music volume as well as switching between radio, media, and map modes.

Trip information, vehicle speed and the current time are all available at passengers' fingertips, while digital content can also be accessed if the optional in-car WiFi hub is selected.

The range of audio options available in the Flying Spur W12 S includes the Naim for Bentley Premium audio system - arguably the finest in-car audio system ever created. With 11 custom-built Balanced Mode Radiator speakers, it sets new standards in sound reproduction. Whether it's digital music, a DAB radio station or an audio book, Naim quality simply has to be heard to be believed.

Regardless of the sound system selected, sound quality at this level demands a calm, quiet environment in which to enjoy it. That's why the Flying Spur W12 S features acoustic glazing, coupled with special soundproof panels built into the doors and the floor. Consequently, road noise remains where it belongs - outside the car. Which means the occupants are free to appreciate whatever they want to listen to - or to enjoy unrivalled peace and quiet.
