CONTINENTAL GT V8 S CONVERTIBLE

For those who love the rich exhaust note of a V8 engine, there is no experience quite like driving a Continental GT V8 S Convertible.

Like its hard-topped sibling, the luxury convertible version of the newest Continental delivers significant improvements in performance over the original Continental V8: an even higher top speed, tighter suspension and improved handling. But it’s the sound of that monstrous V8 engine as the wind whistles past that makes the Continental GT V8 S Convertible such an irresistible proposition.

DESIGN

EXTERIOR DESIGN

From the familiar Bentley powerline running down the side of the car to its sleek electric roof, the Continental GT V8 S Convertible looks every bit as sophisticated as any convertible Bentley – but with the added sporting edge that comes from a series of new S model exterior details.

The look is complemented by newly designed 20” open-spoke wheels and red painted brake callipers. Beluga gloss door mirrors to match the lower body details and dark tint lamps to the front and rear are new options on the GT V8 S Convertible that add additional edge to the exterior aesthetic.

Whether the roof is positioned up or down, the Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible cuts a striking silhouette. Yet when this beautiful grand tourer is in full flight, its observers may only get a fleeting glimpse.

INTERIOR DESIGN

When you sit beneath the four-layer insulated roof, it’s easy to forget you’re in a convertible, such is the craftsmanship of the roof.

The obsessive attention to detail of Bentley’s craftsmen is apparent throughout the cabin, where carefully selected leather hides meet smooth metal surfaces to create a striking blend of handcrafted luxury and steely modernism.

A shorter centre console gives rear seat passengers even more space while, in combination with the elegant Continental instrumentation, gives the impression of an aeronautical cockpit.

Piano Black veneers, sanded and lacquered up to eighteen times during the application process, are available as standard throughout the interior.

ALL WEATHER SPECIFICATION

The roof of the Continental GT V8 S Convertible is so well insulated that, with the top up, it’s easy to believe you’re in a coupé. With the top down, however, there are several features designed specifically to enhance the thrill of open-top grand touring.

Heated front seats are a standard feature whereas integrated neck warmers, a wind deflector and a heated steering wheel are all included in the All Seasons Specification package or as separate options, taking the chill off any cold-weather drive.

PERFORMANCE

ENGINEERING

Beneath the bonnet of the Continental GT V8 S Convertible beats a monstrous heart: a 4.0 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine generating 680 Newton metres (502 lb.ft) of torque.

Despite its muscular powerplant, the Continental GT V8 S Convertible is remarkably efficient with CO2 emissions at a mere 258 g/km, due in no small part to the use of variable displacement.

Additionally, for the ultimate in efficient performance, the engineering team introduced hot-side inside (HSI) technology: in essence, a method of reducing both energy wastage and engine weight by mounting the turbochargers within the ‘V’ of the V8 cylinder arrangement. The result of all this innovation is a Continental GT V8 S Convertible with improved power performance, with no penalty to fuel economy or emissions.

ALL WHEEL DRIVE

Grand touring requires the ability to handle all kinds of road conditions. The GT V8 S Convertible, like all Continentals, features a state-of-the-art all-wheel drive system incorporating an advanced Torsen differential with the power split 40:60 front to rear. This allows drivers to control the car’s position and balance more easily via the throttle, while minimising understeer during hard cornering. The result is a drive that, while safer, feels even more thrilling and dynamic.

SUSPENSION

The suspension has been lowered by 10 mm and the springs and damping revised front and back. Alongside uprated anti-roll bars, this improves agility, control and balance, while the recalibrated steering enhances driver feedback and feel. The suspension is also tuned differently for coupé and convertible models to optimise performance for each body type.

IMPROVED AERODYNAMICS

The new Continental GT V8 S Convertible brings a sleek new edge to the Continental family, a grand tourer now well established in the vanguard of luxury car design. Beluga gloss body trim and door mirrors* complement the newly designed 20” open-spoke wheels.

Meanwhile, Beluga gloss lower body styling features – frontsplitter, side sills and rear diffuser – deliver more than mere aesthetics. They improve the car’s aerodynamics by reducing front-end lift, improving stability at higher speeds.

TECHNOLOGY

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

In a Bentley the driver must feel in control at all times. Our Electronic Stability Control works quietly in the background, offering the driver increased safety and stability without compromising the excitement of the drive.

The GT V8 S Convertible lets you push your skills to the limit with the unobtrusive support of a world-class technology system.

OPEN-AIR DRIVING

At the flick of a switch, the four-layer insulated roof of the Continental GT V8 S Convertible folds down, to expose driver and occupants to the sun. Even if you set off before deciding, the top can still be folded down at speeds of up to 20 mph.

Once in motion, the upgraded Continental chassis and suspension system combine to provide a more responsive drive, while the satisfying roar of the 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine – all the more important when driving with the top down, comes with the option of a sports exhaust system with a revised pipe architecture, redesigned silencers and re-tuned mountings.

INFOTAINMENT

The 8” touch screen in the centre console controls an integrated information and entertainment system. A 30 GB hard drive provides quick access to mapping data and the option of landscape imagery*, alongside live traffic data and online access for point-of-interest searches.

The Continental GT V8 S Convertible can pair with almost any Bluetooth® smartphone, tablet or media player, playing music through the in-car audio system and accessing the contact database in a smartphone.

NAIM™ FOR BENTLEY

The Naim™ for Bentley Premium Audio System was designed with the aim of delivering the best in-car audio in the world. Each of the 11 Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) speakers combine the functions of a separate tweeter and mid-range speaker in one unit. Sited all around the cabin, they make it possible to direct the sound with great accuracy, while providing greater clarity across the whole audible spectrum. The result is incredible sound, anywhere in the car.
